After reading my blog friend Adrienne's post at Chezzetcook Modern Quilts about A Lovely Year of Finishes, I decided to join in the fun. If I manage to finish half the number of projects Adrienne accomplished in 2014, then I will be super satisfied with myself!
I'm starting the year with this WIP:
At the moment it's a EPP C+S Star (that reads like some maths equation, but you know what I'm talking about, quilty language...). I went to look at my post on Instagram to see how long ago I started making this and it was SEPTEMBER! I couldn't believe my eyes, that long ago?!
I'm joining a Lovely Year of Finishes over at Fiber of All Sorts to hopefully transform this Star into a finished project that I've been wanting to make since September. It's not a quilt, it's not a trivet. Let's say it's a decoration. I have a question: how would you hand quilt/machine quilt the star? Would you quilt it just around the edge, just around the central hexagon or do you have any other suggestions? Thank you for any help you can give me.
Take a look at Adrienne's (at Chezzetcook Modern Quilts) beautiful quilts They are all projects she entered and finished for a Lovely Year of Finishes. Her work really inspires me.

I would personally probably straight line stitch an echo of the center hexagon that moves out from the center. :) Good luck completing the project!
ReplyDeleteI really like your EPP. I'm doing some good oldfashioned *yawn* hexagons as my travel project. If hand quilting I think a 1/4 from the seams would look good. If machine quilting I'd go with something curvy to balance the angles of the piecing.

Love the colours in this! I'd probably echo quilt too!
ReplyDeleteLove that Cotton & Steel in your EPP!
ReplyDeleteYour star is gorgeous! I'd suggest hand quilting (in black) just outside of the hexi in the center, and then just outside of the the outer star shape.

You can do it, I have some EPP, that is almost 2 years old, jeez.
ReplyDeleteGreat colors. I have yet to attempt EPP but I can imagine it taking a while!
ReplyDeleteThe centre hexie is the focal point, so I would think of ways to quilt in the points, perhaps in a dark perle cotton, and leave the centre untouched.
ReplyDeleteI think I would just quilt about 1/4 inch around all the edges. Good luck on your goal, I have really liked doing ALYOF, it helps keep me on track (well as much as anything can).
ReplyDeleteVery pretty EPP, I love the butterfly in the middle :)
